Talvivaara Project Ltd has chosen SWECO PIC Oy to be its consulting engineering partner in the design of a metals recovery plant to be built in Sotkamo, Finland.

The size of the engineering project is around 15 person-years. The mining production will start in 2008. When in full scale operation, the mine will produce 30,000 tonnes of nickel per year. The Talvivaara mine project is one of the largest of its kind in Finland across the times. – For SWECO PIC this task is a significant move into mine investment projects in Finland. We have earlier experience in mine projects in Sweden, Russia, Africa and South America, says Kari Harsunen, Vice President of SWECO PIC. The Talvivaara deposits comprise the largest known sulphide nickel resource in Europe with 340 million tonnes in classified resources. The orebodies also contain substantial amounts of copper, zinc and cobalt.
