In the next few years the mining company Boliden will expand its ore production in Garpenberg, Sweden. Sweco has been commissioned for extensive project management services in connection with the expansion.

“We are very pleased that Boliden has chosen to work with us. Sweco has longstanding experience in advanced assignments of this type on behalf of Swedish and foreign industrial companies,” says Richard Furuhovde, Project Manager at Sweco.

In January 2011 the mining company Boliden made a decision to significantly expand its operations. The total investment amounts to SEK 3.9 billion and will increase ore production in Garpenberg from the current 1.4 to 2.5 million tonnes annually. The expansion process will be carried out during 2011-2014 with a gradual increase in production starting at the beginning of 2014 to full scale operation at the end of 2015.

Sweco has been given responsibility for structural engineering, land planning and building service systems in the project, which among other things includes a new concentrator, new shafts, underground facilities and infrastructure.
