Sweco wins contract award in hydro power, Romania

Sweco has been engaged in the modernization of one of Romania largest hydropower plants. The contract is worth about EUR 3 million.

The plant to be modernized, Stejaru-Bicaz, is located in northeast Romania. The Sweco assignment includes assistance to the Client with project management, engineering consultancy and the delivery and execution supervision during rehabilitation of the plant that was built in the early 1960s.

Through our participation in the rehabilitation of hydroelectric plants internationally, we have a good opportunity to export and deploy technology solutions developed in Sweden during the last decade and thus contribute to sustainable development,” says Eva Nygren, President of Sweco Sweden.

Sweco has been working as consultants for a long time with numerous of similar projects worldwide. For example, Sweco has just completed a major similar assignment for the rehabilitation of the High Dam hydroelectric power plant in Aswan, Egypt.

Brief facts:

Stejaru-Bicaz has six units with a total installed capacity of 210 MW. The plant is located in the Bistrita river in northeastern Romania. In total there are 20 power stations in the river with a combined capacity of approximately 600 MW.

The client is Romania's state hydroelectric company Hidroelectrica SA and the project is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
