SWECO wins nuclear power contract in Finland

SWECO PIC has been awarded a contract for engineering work for the new Olkiluoto 3 power plant in Finland by the Olkiluoto 3 consortium of AREVA and Siemens, the constructor of the new nuclear power plant.

SWECO PIC is in charge of the detail engineering of the safe guard and fuel buildings. The engineering work will take place in co-operation with SWECO VBB, which has experience in several similar assignments. ”This assignment is a clear proof that the merger with SWECO has enhanced our competitive edge and we can rise to challenges bigger than ever”, says Kari Harsunen, Vice President, Process Industry Division, SWECO PIC Oy. In 1970’s SWECO VBB was commissioned to engineering work for two earlier nuclear power plants of Olkiluoto. In 1980’s SWECO VBB had a similar assignment in Oskarshamn 3 in Sweden. “The Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant, owned by Teollisuuden Voima Oy, is a very important project for us in Western European market, we have set high requirements for our co-operation partners”, says Mr Arnd Schüssler, Project Manager, Framatome ANP, an AREVA and Siemens company SWECO PIC’s sub consultants will be Consulting Engineers Pöysälä & Sandberg Ltd and Magnus Malmberg Consulting Engineers. The engineering work will be completed by the mid-year 2006. SWECO PIC provides industrial customers with consulting, design, engineering and project management services in plant investments, product development and production.
