On Thursday June 13th, Air Canada was welcomed at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with an inauguration ceremony ahead of the first flights to Toronto and Montreal. The inauguration ceremony was attended by H.E. Jason LaTorre, Ambassador of Canada to Sweden, Mr. Jonas Abrahamsson, CEO Swedavia, and MD, International Sales, Mr. Rocky Lo, Air Canada. Operating direct routes to Toronto and Montreal five times a week, Air Canada will be an important addition to Stockholm Arlanda, connecting the Swedish capital with Canada as well as the North American market.

Air Canada, as a founding member of Star Alliance and as the largest provider of scheduled passenger services on the domestic and international market to and from Canada, has established itself at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with two direct routes, to Toronto and Montreal respectively. Air Canada’s establishment at Stockholm Arlanda is of great importance, not only to those who want to visit family and friends or explore new places, but also to the thousands of Swedish businesses operating in Canada and North America. Being one of Sweden’s most important markets for trade and export, a well-functioning connectivity to facilitate for important goods such as technology and pharmaceuticals to be delivered at shorter times is most vital to industries and companies alike.

- I am very happy to welcome Air Canada to Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Air Canada's establishment at Stockholm Arlanda shows a great understanding of Stockholm's central role as an important hub in the region, says Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia. Air Canada’s investment strengthens Swedish connectivity and further improves our offer of destinations at the airport, both for those traveling for business or to visit friends and family. The relationship between Canada and Sweden has a long-standing history and the two countries have a lot of interdependencies. The new routes served by Air Canada will create an excellent connectivity which I think will benefit the market enormously, he said.

- These new direct flights bring Canada and Sweden closer together. They will allow friends and family to connect more easily and will serve to further deepen our growing and dynamic bilateral relationship, highlighted H.E. Jason LaTorre, Ambassador of Canada to Sweden. These new routes will also reinforce Stockholm, Montreal, and Toronto as important regional hubs. Welcome to Stockholm Air Canada! Bienvenue à Stockholm Air Canada!

- The introduction of these new Stockholm – Toronto and Stockholm – Montreal routes mark a new chapter in the relationship between Canada and Sweden. By linking these two vibrant cities with non-stop flights, we are not only making travel more convenient but also fostering stronger economic, cultural, and social ties between our nations, says Rocky Lo, Managing Director International Sales at Air Canada. Air Canada continues our strategy of building international scale at our Toronto and Montreal global hubs and we are very pleased to deepen Air Canada's longstanding presence in Northern Europe with the addition of flights to Stockholm, he said.

Starting on June 13th 2024, Air Canada will operate Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Toronto (YYZ) route two times a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. The Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Montreal (YUL) route will be operated three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, starting on June 15th 2024.

Swedavia’s work for fossil-free aviation
Swedavia has carried out ambitious climate work for many years. All ten of its airports achieved the goal of zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions from their own operations by year-end 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the switch to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used for refueling at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025. Swedavia’s climate transition work and its pioneering work to operate climate-smart airports have won international awards, and in 2021 the trade organization Airports Council International (ACI) named Stockholm Arlanda Airport Eco-Innovation Airport of the Year. Swedavia offers all passengers flying from one of Swedavia’s airports the option to purchase SAF for all or part of their journey via flygreenfund.se/swedavia.

Swedavia is a group that owns, operates and develops 10 airports throughout Sweden. Our role is to create the connectivity that Sweden needs to facilitate travel, business and meetings. Satisfied and safe travelers are the foundation of Swedavia's business. Swedavia is a world leader in the development of airports with the least possible climate impact. Since 2020, Swedavia's own airport operations have been fossil-free at all ten airports. The group's turnover in 2023 was approximately SEK 5.9  billion and approximately 2,600 employees.
