Check in your baggage in Åre during the Alpine World Ski Championships

During the autumn, Åre Östersund Airport implemented a number of improvement measures at the airport in anticipation of the passenger increase during the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships to be held in Åre. Automated entry gates and more space in the baggage check-in facility for bulky baggage are improvements that will provide travellers with a smoother experience. Now all visitors to the World Ski Championships will be able to check in their baggage when they are still in Åre the day before their return flight. Next to Holiday Club, a satellite airport, Check-in Åre, is being set up, where passengers can drop off their baggage, which is then transported to Åre Östersund Airport.

Check-in Åre is a pilot programme that Åre Östersund Airport is carrying out as the first Swedavia airport. This is a very convenient way for people who are visiting the World Ski Championships and flying home to unload bulky baggage such as skis, poles and boots while they are still in Åre. Along with the option of dropping off baggage in advance, there are also self-service machines for check-in, boarding cards and bag tags located in a number of hotels in the village.

“During the Alpine World Ski Championships, we want to be able to give all our passengers a smoother journey by offering the option of checking in baggage when they are still in Åre. During these intense travel days, the airport experience will be better for all visitors, in part with Check-in Åre but also with the improvements we carried out for baggage handling and automated entry gates. Naturally, it’s really great to be the first Swedavia airport as well as the first in the Nordic region to be able to offer remote baggage check-in away from the airport,” says Peter Fahlén, Airport Director at Åre Östersund Airport.

“The pilot programme Check-in Åre is one of Swedavia’s innovation concepts, in which we test and develop our products. Efficiency and smooth flows are most important to our passengers and the basis of our business development,” says Marie Norman, Head of Products and Concepts at Swedavia.

Baggage drop-off will be next to Holiday Club. Check-in Åre will be open February 9-17, and the daily opening hours will be 1:00-8:00 p.m. SAS will also be on hand to help its passengers with rebookings and other questions.
