International passengers continue to drive air travel
The number of passengers at Swedavia’s airports increase by four per cent in June compared to the same period in 2012.
In June, about 3.1 million passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s airports, an increase of four per cent compared to the same period in 2012. The number of domestic passengers was essentially unchanged at 1.0 million, while the number of international passengers increased seven per cent compared to June 2012 to 2.1 million.
“In June too, the greatest increase was in international travel, and we are also working hard together with other companies and organisations to further enhance Swedish access,” says Torborg Chetkovich, president and chief executive of Swedavia. “During the year, seven new intercontinental routes from Stockholm Arlanda Airport were established, and more are needed to meet passenger demand and bolster conditions for growth and competitiveness.”
In June, the number of landings in scheduled and charter operations at Swedavia’s airports was 17,000, which is two per cent more than during the same month in 2012.
So far in 2013 (January-June), 16.2 million passengers have flown to or from one of Swedavia’s airports, an increase of one per cent, while the number of landings has fallen one per cent compared to the first six months of 2012.
