Japan’s largest airline, ANA, will establish at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with a direct route to the country’s major hub, Tokyo Haneda. Starting on January 31st, ANA will operate the route three times a week, thus becoming an important player in connecting the Swedish capital with one of the most important markets in Asia.

ANA (All Nippon Airways), a member of Star Alliance and the largest provider of scheduled passenger services on the domestic and international market to and from Japan, will establish at Stockholm Arlanda Airport with a direct route to Tokyo Haneda on January 31st, 2025. The route will not only serve as an important connection to the Japanese capital but also as an important connection to the whole of Asia and the South Pacific due to ANAs vast network.

- There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market and ANA’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Tokyo Haneda is a clear sign of this. ANA will play an important role in connecting Sweden to Japan and other well-established markets in Asia. Swedavia’s main goal is to increase the connectivity and ANAs vast network facilitates for people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure or to visit family and friends, says Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia.

- We are thrilled to include Stockholm in our growing European network. We look forward to contributing to the deepening of ties between Japan and Sweden, fostering even closer relations between our two nations, says Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA.

Japan is Sweden’s second largest trading partner in Asia, with close to 150 Swedish companies – both major corporations and start-up companies – operating in Japan, the world’s third largest economy. Sweden in turn is the largest Nordic export market for Japan, and roughly 180 Japanese companies have operations in Sweden.

The new direct route with 5-Star airline ANA will be significant for the hospitality industry as well as the growing business exchange between Japan and Sweden, where important cargo will benefit from shorter and faster delivery times.

The route Stockholm Arlanda Airport – Tokyo Haneda will start operating on January 31st 2025, and will be operated three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Tickets will be on sale from July 22nd 2024.

Swedavia’s work for fossil-free aviation
Swedavia has carried out ambitious climate work for many years. All ten of its airports achieved the goal of zero fossil carbon dioxide emissions from their own operations by year-end 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the switch to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used for refueling at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025. Swedavia’s climate transition work and its pioneering work to operate climate-smart airports have won international awards, and in 2021 the trade organization Airports Council International (ACI) named Stockholm Arlanda Airport Eco-Innovation Airport of the Year. Swedavia offers all passengers flying from one of Swedavia’s airports the option to purchase SAF for all or part of their journey via flygreenfund.se/swedavia.

Swedavia is a group that owns, operates and develops 10 airports throughout Sweden. Our role is to create the connectivity that Sweden needs to facilitate travel, business and meetings. Satisfied and safe travelers are the foundation of Swedavia's business. Swedavia is a world leader in the development of airports with the least possible climate impact.
