airBaltic is expanding at Göteborg Landvetter Airport and starts a new direct route to the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. The Latvian airline will thus increase its range of flights on offer from Gothenburg with another destination in addition to the existing route to Riga.

On March 29, 2020, airBaltic will begin flying non-stop to Vilnius from Göteborg Landvetter with two weekly departures on a year-round basis. airBaltic will be the only airline to serve this route. Traffic between Sweden and the Baltic countries is growing every year and there is a demand for the route between western Sweden and the Lithuanian capital.

“We welcome the investment that airBaltc is making in the region by launching another direct international route and a second destination from Göteborg Landvetter Airport. We are happy to once again have a direct connection with Vilnius, and we know that the route meets the demands from both leisure and business travellers in western Sweden that want to reach Lithuania easily and conveniently, as well as for European travellers who want to visit our growing region”, says Anna Strömwall, Airport director at Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

“As we continue to grow, we aim to provide the best connectivity to and from all three Baltic capitals. When evaluating, which destinations to launch from the Baltic capitals, we are at first looking for the most demanded ones among the local passengers. Because of that, we provide an additional contribution to local airports, offering new travel opportunities. By next summer, we will already serve 16 destinations from Estonia, 11 from Lithuania and over 70 destinations from Latvia”, says Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic.

Two weekly flights connecting Gothenburg and Vilnius will commence on March 29, 2020 and will be operated on a year-round basis. Göteborg Landvetter –Vilnius will be airBaltic’s fourth direct route from Swedavia’s airports. Along with the routes from Göteborg Landvetter to Vilnius and Riga, the carrier flies from Stockholm Arlanda to Riga and Tallinn.

For many years, Swedavia has carried out ambitious sustainability work. All ten of its airports shall have zero emissions of fossil carbon dioxide from their own operations by 2020. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to bio fuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025.
