Ramp tower at Stockholm Arlanda to become one-of-a-kind apartment

The former ramp tower at Stockholm Arlanda Airport has stood empty for 15 years. But the tower will get new life now that it has been converted into an apartment decorated by the Swedish artist Cilla Ramnek. People now have a chance to become one of the only guests in one of Sweden’s most spectacular apartments – the only accommodation of its kind in the world – as five lucky winners from Sweden and selected countries across Europe will get the chance to spend a night in the tower in a competition carried out by Stockholm Arlanda and HomeAway, the world leader in vacation rentals.

The ramp tower, located right next to two of the take-off and landing runways at Stockholm Arlanda, was once the work site for parking arriving aircrafts. With the help of the artist Cilla Ramnek, the old tower has been transformed into a unique apartment with almost 35 square metres of space and its own kitchen as well as a panoramic view of one of the airport’s take-off and landing runways. The apartment is mainly decorated with brands accessible at the airport.

– I accepted this assignment because I found the tower setting extraordinary cool in a way I really like. Both esthetically but I also thought it had an air of abandoness, something I have always been intrigued by. This is by far among the most fun environment I have ever worked with. I am inspired by the place itself with its special conditions and then the furnishing comes naturally, Cilla Ramnek says.

In the apartment, you get a 24-hour experience with the best Stockholm Arlanda has to offer: VIP service on arrival, a visit to the flight tower 80 metres up in the air and behind the scenes-access at the airport. You will also be treated to some culinary experiences:

  • Breakfast served in the tower from RC Chocolat, which is run by Ronny Latva, a member of the Swedish National Pastry Team.
  • Dinner at Pontus in the Air, which is owned and operated by one of Sweden’s most distinguished chefs, Pontus Frithiof.

“It feels great to be able to offer both Swedish and international guests the opportunity to experience this hidden secret at Stockholm Arlanda. At the same time, we see this as an opportunity to showcase everything Scandinavia´s fastest growing airport has to offer,” says Kjell-Åke Westin, Airport Director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

The contest #HomeAwayArlanda allows five lucky winners from Sweden and selected countries across Europe to be the only guests able to spend a night in the ramp tower apartment. HomeAway, the world leader in vacation rentals, offers more than two million unique places to stay in 190 countries. During the contest period they now also include one of the most spectacular properties in Sweden.

“Kicking off a memorable vacation in a flight tower symbolizes the perfect take-off point to discover Sweden, while giving travellers the freedom to take control of precious holiday time on their own terms, which is exactly what holiday rentals offer families and groups of friends travelling together,” says Aye Helsig, Regional Director Central Europe from HomeAway

The winner of the prize can bring up to three guests. In addition to the stay in the ramp tower the winner also get three extra nights in a HomeAway holiday rental in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen or Helsinki.

The competition is open from 13th June to 30th July, and is running in the following countries in addition to Sweden:
