    In January, demand for air travel was stable, despite uncertainties such as the global situation, economic uncertainty and personal finances. International travel continued to increase during the month, which mainly benefited our major airports but also Luleå Airport. Domestic travel, on the other hand, continues to show a weaker trend. Although there are significant uncertainties, we expect increased traffic and a greater range of routes at our airports later this spring and during the summer. At the same time, there are signs that the economic situation will improve somewhat in the period ahead, which is also likely to increase demand for air travel.

    Skånetrafiken procures and introduces public transport route to Swedavia’s Airport - Malmö Airport

    At a press event on 7 February at Swedavia’s and Sweden’s third largest airport, Malmö Airport, it was announced that Region Skåne will procure and introduce a public transport route to the airport through Skånetrafiken. Traffic for Skånetrafiken buses is planned to start in August 2026 with a bus line between Svedala and Malmö Airport.     In November, Swedavia's airports had nearly 2.4 million passengers, which is a 1 per cent increase compared to November last year. International travel, mainly at Stockholm Arlanda but also at Göteborg Landvetter, continued to drive the trend, but demand weakened somewhat.     Swedavia has decided to make Malmö Airport available as a test arena for Heart Aerospace’s ES-30 electric aircraft. The full-scale model aircraft will be tested and used to demonstrate taxiing and charging at the airport.     The European low-cost carrier Wizz Air continues to have a positive view of the Swedish market and has relaunched its route to Katowice in southern Poland. During the summer season, the airline will have two weekly departures, on Mondays and Fridays, until the end of October. Wizz Air is making a major investment in Sweden and in 2021 launched three new routes from Malmö Airport to Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Tirana.     The 2021 Scanian of the Year, chosen by readers of the newspaper Kvällsposten, is the equestrian Peder Fredricson.     As the world now slowly opens up, we see that more and more people want to travel again, and there is strong demand from passengers and airlines for the chance to take PCR and Antigen tests and to have travel certificates issued at the airport. Swedavia has signed an agreement under the Swedish Public Procurement Act with Scantest to set up a test centre at Malmö Airport. Scantest carries out PCR and Antigen tests at the airport, and if the test result is negative a travel certificate signed by a specialist doctor is issued.     For the second straight year, Swedavia has invited a number of companies and other organisations to take part in a coordinated tender for sustainable aviation fuel in an effort to reduce fossil carbon dioxide emissions from its own air travel for business purposes.
