Today Swedbank has entered a strategic partnership with Aktia, a Finnish bank, asset manager and life insurer, to expand the bank’s corporate offering on the Finnish market. Together, Swedbank and Aktia will provide a complementary offering to support the continued growth of their respective customers in the Nordic region.

“I’m glad to welcome Aktia as our new collaborative partner. We are now fulfilling our strategy of working with strong complementary partnerships in the Nordic region. It’s a strategy that enables us to grow in a sustainable and cost-efficient way. Today marks a starting point, and I’m looking forward to what we will achieve together with Aktia,” says Jens Henriksson, President and CEO of Swedbank.

Swedbank’s ambition is to continue to focus on large corporates, midcorps and institutions on the Finnish market, and to develop the business in these segments. The strategic partnership is a way to continue building on foundations where the parties’ respective offerings complement each other. The collaboration entails that customers outside of Aktia’s area of focus will have the opportunity to be served by Swedbank Finland, while those outside of Swedbank Finland’s focus will in turn have the opportunity to be served by Aktia.

As part of this change, Swedbank will wind down its cash management and payment services offering in Finland. Swedbank’s corporate customers who use these services will be given the opportunity to be served by Aktia.

“This strategic partnership is a way for us to expand the successful business we’ve built in Finland. Swedbank and Aktia complement each other when it comes to the way we serve our customers and the products we provide. The collaboration will open up new opportunities for our customers to grow,” says Bo Bengtsson, Head of Corporates & Institutions, Swedbank.

The new collaboration with Aktia means that Swedbank now works with strategic partners in all the major Nordic countries.

“The collaboration supports Aktia’s strategy and our goal to grow especially among SME customers in Finland. We are very much looking forward to developing our collaboration with Swedbank, which is a strong player in the large corporate market. Together, we will be able to offer our customers the opportunity to utilise the extensive services of our trusted partner, also internationally. Now we will be able to support our growing customers even better,” says Anssi Huhta, Executive Vice President, Banking Business and Deputy CEO of Aktia.
