Swedbank Robur Climate & Nature Report 2022
Minimising the global temperature increase and its effects is crucial and requires a long-term coordinated effort by many actors, including the financial sector. In 2022, Swedbank Robur continued to support and drive positive development in the climate area, including by establishing a new biodiversity strategy, developing a new method for calculating the carbon footprint of fixed income funds and starting to report and measure Scope 3 carbon dioxide emissions.
Swedbank Robur's Climate & Nature Report 2022 also states that the fund company:
- Continued to be an active and contributing party in collaborative forums such as the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge and Net Zero Asset Managers.
- Increased the share of investments that have verified net-zero targets with, or joined the Science Based Target Initiative, from 13% of our assets under management to 49% (2019-2022).
- Ahead of its forecast carbon intensity reduction trajectory in their assets under management.
- Called on states during COP15 to sign the Global Biodiversity Framework and to commit to restoring biodiversity and the world's ecosystems.
"The result of the report is an acknowledgement of the entire administration's dedicated work and fantastic commitment and shows that we continue to be in line with, or even ahead of, all our set interim goals," says Pia Gisgård, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Governance at Swedbank Robur.
In recent years, Swedbank Robur has taken several key steps to achieve its goals of the managed fund capital being in line with the Paris Agreement as early as 2025 and carbon neutral by 2040. In 2020, the Access Edge funds were launched as secured to be managed in line with the Paris Agreement. In 2021, a new fund (Climate Impact) was launched to meet customer demand for a fund with a pronounced climate focus. In 2022, a new strategy for biodiversity was established, in addition, the fund company took an active part in developing an impact guide on biodiversity aimed at investors together with the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge. The fund company also published a new method for calculating carbon footprints in fixed income funds, something that has so far been lacking in the market.
“Sustainability is an ongoing work and not a project with an end date. We have chosen to take an active role in issues that are important to our customers. The core of that is that we must dare to try and have the courage to follow through. I am very proud of what we have achieved so far, although I am humbled by the fact that much still remains to be done," says Pia Gisgård.
