Most of the fund company's actively managed equity funds are also this year at a significantly lower level of carbon dioxide emissions than their respective benchmark index. New targets for the climate work were set and a new dark green fund focusing on the climate transition (Climate Impact) was launched. The share capital of another fund family (Transfer) was ensured to be managed in line with the Paris Agreement*.

"I am very proud of what we have done in 2021, it is a strong and dedicated team effort behind every step we take to achieve our climate goals. During the year, we also set new subgoals and published how we will work, and what methods we use, to ensure that our managed capital reaches the net zero-emission target already in 2040," says Pia Gisgård, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Governance at Swedbank Robur.

Highlights Swedbank Robur's Climate Report 2021:

  • As of 1 January 2021, an updated Policy for Responsible Investments was adopted, where the strategy to opt out of fossil fuels was expanded to include, in addition to coal, oil, gas and power products unless the companies have distinct transition goals. In addition, investments in unconventional fossil fuels such as Arctic oil/gas, shale oil/gas and oil sands are excluded.
  • Two folded investments in sustainable bonds (to 36 bn SEK total).
  • 50 percent lower carbon footprint in our credit funds against comparable markets.
  • Published roadmap and methodology for how to reach net zero emissions.
  • 42 funds top ranked by Climetrics**.
  • Launch of a new dark green fund (Swedbank Robur Climate Impact) where the investments actively contribute to the climate transition.
  • Classified yet another fund family (the generation funds Swedbank Robur Transfer) as managed in line with the Paris Agreement.

Summary of Swedbank Robur's new climate subgoals
Continue to strongly increase the reduction of CO2e emissions - halve our emissions by 2030 to ensure net-zero emissions by 2040, compared to baseline year 2019. This will be achieved partly by increased investments in companies that have set net-zero targets themselves, with the goal that the share of our AUM that set net-zero targets will be 60 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2040.

Climate solutions - Increase our investments in climate solutions, with an initial focus on renewable energy. 1.4 percent of our portfolio's aggregated AUM by 2030 will be invested in renewable energy and then increased to 3.8 percent by 2040, compared to baseline year 2019.

Engagement - Identify and prioritize dialogues with companies within the TCFD* (Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures) sectors that account for 70% of Swedbank Robur's owned emissions. Active engagement through dialogues creates the prerequisite for support in the companies' journey to set their own net-zero goals and work to achieve these goals.
