Swedbank turns off the lights for the environment

On March 28th 2009, at 8.30 pm, millions of people globally will participate in the in the manifestation “Earth Hour”. Across the world people will unite over one simple action – turning off the lights for one hour. Swedbank will partake and urges all its customers, employees and partners to do the same.

Swedbank and its subsidiaries will take a stand by turning of the light as much as possible at the headquarters in Kiev, Stockholm, Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn. To achieve an even greater impact Swedbank invites its approximately 9.9 million customers and 21 000 employees to turn of the light.

Earth Hour is a global manifestation combating climate change that in a short period of time has grown to a world wide activity. More than 80 countries and 1700 cities have so far signed up to Earth Hour include Sydney, Beijing, London, Los Angeles, Cape Town, Moscow, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Malmö.

The aim is to draw attention and create engagement around climate change and to send a powerful signal to policy makers to negotiate a strong climate agreement in Copenhagen in December 2009 during the Swedish EU presidency. Implementer to Earth Hour is WWF, which Swedbank since many years cooperates with.
