New Stirling laboratory in Gothenburg
Swedish Stirling AB has built a new laboratory and test centre for Stirling engines in Gothenburg. The facility, which is now ready for commissioning, will greatly strengthen the company's research and development capacity. The inauguration and demonstration of the facility will be timed depending on the development of the Covid-19 outbreak.
During the winter, Swedish clean tech company Swedish Stirling built a brand new laboratory and test centre for Stirling engines. The facility, located directly adjacent to the company's headquarters in Gothenburg, represents an important step in the strengthening of the company's capacity for research and product development. Thanks to the facility, Swedish Stirling expects to be able, among other things, to faster upgrade and refine the PWR BLOK for use with more types of industrial residual gases. The PWR BLOK, the company's unique proprietary solution for recovering energy from industrial residual gases, has rapidly achieved great success in the metallurgical sector in South Africa.
“This represents a significant strengthening of our development efforts. The fact that our development engineers and technicians are gaining access to their own state-of-the-art laboratory, adapted for the live operation and testing of Stirling engines with combustible gases, will enable us to more quickly develop new versions of the PWR BLOK,” says Gunnar Larsson, CEO of Swedish Stirling.
Laboratory operations are commencing now. However, due to the Corvid-19 outbreak, Swedish Stirling has decided to postpone the planned inauguration and demonstration, which were intended to be held directly after the company's General Assembly on 24 April. The company has taken a number of measures internally to limit the transmission of disease in society. For the time being ordinary operations continue in both Sweden and South Africa, with minimal disruptions. However, the management team and the Board of Directors are continuously monitoring events, and the company believes that it has a high level of preparedness to take various measures if the crisis should be prolonged. The company is also financially very strong, with good liquidity thanks to issues in the amount of SEK 147 million at the beginning of March.
“Obviously it’s unfortunate that we cannot demonstrate the new laboratory to our shareholders right now, but I am convinced that everyone will fully understand our decision. We all have loved ones who may be hit very hard if they are infected and we should of course do our utmost to limit the risk of the infection spreading,” says Gunnar Larsson, CEO of Swedish Stirling.
