Swedish Stirling AB and ABB Sweden have initiated a technical collaboration regarding a unique solution for conversion of residual gases to electricity. ABB will supply components and systems for the PWR BLOK, and will assist with knowledge and expertise as well.

Clean tech company Swedish Stirling and ABB have initiated a technical collaboration on the PWR BLOK. ABB will supply low-voltage products and drive for the PWR BLOK, and will contribute its skill and expertise in the field. The purpose of the collaboration is primarily to reduce production costs ahead of mass production, which begins next year, and eventually to further develop the PWR BLOK.

“We are very pleased to be able to initiate a collaboration with ABB. They have an extensive history of technical leadership and a strong commitment to developing environmentally-friendly technology. ABB gives Swedish Stirling a strong technology partner who can assist in developing PWR BLOK technology both short-term and long-term,” says Gunnar Larsson, CEO of Swedish Stirling.

“Swedish Stirling is a fast-growing and innovative startup company that through its offer in energy recovery and reduced CO2 emissions, is well in line with ABB Motion's strategy when it comes to the path to a more sustainable industry, says Ulf Hellström, Business Area Manager, ABB Motion in Sweden.

Swedish Stirling is in the midst of a wide-ranging commercialisation phase. Over the past year, the company has inked agreements for a pilot facility and a full-scale facility of up to 25 PWR BLOK units with South Africa's largest ferrochrome producers. During the summer, Swedish Stirling signed letters of intent for additional orders to these with a value in excess of SEK 2 billion, and intends to commence large-scale mass production of the PWR BLOK during the second half of 2021.

About Swedish Stirling

Swedish Stirling AB is a Swedish clean tech company founded in 2008 with a mission to further refine the incomparable ability of Stirling technology to convert thermal energy to electricity. The company’s latest product – the PWR BLOK 400-F – is a unique proprietary solution for recovering energy from industrial residual and flare gases and convert them to 100 % carbon-neutral electricity with high efficiency. The PWR BLOK is – according to independent certification – the cheapest way of producing electricity that exist today and gives greater CO2 savings per invested Euro than any other type of energy source. The company’s shares are listed in Sweden on the NGM Nordic SME. Read more at www.swedishstirling.com

About PWR BLOK

PWR BLOK 400-F is a container-based solution in which Swedish Stirling’s Stirling engines are used to harness energy from flare and industrial residual gas combustion. This allows for significant electricity and cost savings to industries, as well as reducing the global CO2 -emissions. The PWR BLOK contains 14 Stirling engines and delivers a net output of 400 kW. The container is placed next to facilities where combustion of residual gases occurs and converts the energy in the gas to electricity. At the price Swedish Stirling can offer, a customer’s payback period for the PWR BLOK 400-F is about five years. The company estimates the technology’s service life at 25 years as a minimum, allowing customers to reduce the volume of electricity purchased from the grid by up to 15 percent.
