Mammut and Lagoped receive prestigious ISPO awards by integrating innovative products from Sympatex. Austrian market leader Zanier achieves a 60 percent reduction in CO2 with the new Sympatex-based gloves. On introduces a stylish running jacket.

Munich / Unterföhring, February 3, 2019 – At the 2019 ISPO, Sympatex is once again proving that consistent sustainability does not require sacrificing style and design, or restricting performance. As a result, the functional textiles specialist is entering the coming season with another four renowned apparel partners in tow, all of who chose climate-neutral Sympatex membranes for exactly these reasons. To cite one example, Sympatex helped Swiss-based MAMMUT bring the world’s first laser-welded down jacket to the market. For this innovation, which relies on a two-layer Sympatex laminate, MAMMUT is being recognized with an ISPO award. The fully waterproof Photics HS Thermo Hooded Jacket stands out not only because of its exceptional design, but also because the use of waterproof tapes is significantly reduced. The new Mammut Laser Fuse Technology is what keeps the Sympatex shell completely sealed and waterproof, without any restrictions. The optimally breathable Sympatex membrane simultaneously provides uncompromising dryness and comfort. And the jacket is of course entirely PFC-free.

Innsbruck glove specialist ZANIER also takes the issue of sustainability to heart. That’s why the company decided to incorporate environmentally-friendly, completely recyclable membranes from Sympatex into its new models for the coming season. Thanks to the highly-functional Sympatex membrane, the REVOLUTION.XSX fingered glove is not only 100 percent water- and windproof, but optimally breathable as well. To top it off, high-quality goat leather and 4-way stretch contribute to ideal wearing comfort. Because it offers maximum mobility thanks to the fingered inner glove, the EVOLUTION.XSX is the perfect back-country companion. Together with the Primaloft® insulation, the Sympatex membrane provides an extra portion of warmth.

Right after introducing its first Sympatex-based model, new customer and French manufacturer LAGOPED was recognized with the ISPO Gold Award. The ski combination was made from 100 percent recycled materials. Both the shell and lining are made from recycled PET bottles. The membrane is also made 100 percent from Sympatex pre-consumer recycling; in other words from Sympatex membrane waste that had to be disposed of in the past. The ski jacket EVE and matching functional pants SUPA are furthermore enhanced with an environmentally-friendly, fluorocarbon-free DWR. Both products are mono-materials and are well-suited for returning back to the closed textile loop at the end of their life cycle.

Swiss-based running specialist ON is introducing its first waterproof Sympatex running jacket during the ISPO. This extremely lightweight model is made from a sustainable three-layer laminate manufactured with a climate-neutral, recyclable Sympatex membrane. The jacket will be available in on-line “Performance Apparel” line-up for the 2019/2020 fall/winter season.

In light of the meanwhile indisputable and urgent need for radical measures aimed at rapidly curtailing climate impacts caused by the fashion industry, these products feature not only exceptional designs and innovative technologies. Their impact on the climate is significantly reduced. With this in mind, Sympatex illustrated through a representative outdoor clothing analysis that by itself, the selection of the membrane material has a decisive influence on the end product’s climate footprint. Furthermore, simply switching from a PTFE membrane to a climate-neutral Sympatex membrane, which has been available since 2017, reduces by half the amount of climate gases released into the atmosphere during the entire production process of an outdoor jacket – and for skiing gloves up to 60 percent. As a result, the new partners are inching closer to the goals of the “UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action”, which representatives from a growing number of major fashion labels agreed to under the leadership of the UN in December 2018 with the aim of significantly reducing the industry’s impact on our climate.

“Sam And The Climate Plan” – education begins at an early age
In this spirit and just in time for the 2019 ISPO, Sympatex is publishing “Sam And The Climate Plan”, a new children’s book designed to explain the meaning of climate protection to youngsters in an easy-to-understand manner. Following on the heels of “Sam And The Plastic Plan” from last year, this second book will be included e.g. in every box of RICOSTA/Sympatex children’s shoes sold under the Pepino and RICOSTA brands during the coming season, as well as at the check-out counter of selected RICOSTA retailers.
