BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (June 23, 2010) – Carolyn Pare, president and CEO of the Buyers Health Care Action Group (BHCAG) has been appointed chair of the board for the National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH). According to the NBCH, the appointment was approved by the full board of directors on June 21 and Pare’s term begins immediately. Pare will serve in this position for two years.

Pare has held leadership positions in health care and related fields for more than 25 years. As chair of the NBCH, she will provide leadership and direction to 60 business and health coalitions and more than 7,000 employers that are members of the NBCH. These member organizations represent more than 25 million employees and their dependents across the United States.

In her role as president and CEO for the Minnesota-based BHCAG, Pare has been actively involved with the NBCH, serving on the NBCH Board of Governors and the Executive Committee since 2003.

“Carolyn has a wealth of experience in shaping health care at the local level and nationally,” said Andrew Webber, president and CEO, NBCH. “She understands the needs and concerns of all stakeholders involved in the delicate balance that is the health care marketplace and knows what it takes to facilitate collaboration between those stakeholders. We’re thrilled to have her in this leadership position.”

In her position as chair of the NBCH, Pare will provide strategic oversight to the organization and its members. Issues that will be of significance to Pare and the NBCH include payment reform, health care quality, public reporting of health care data by providers, patient safety, and health information technology.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to work with an organization like the National Business Coalition on Health,” said Pare. “The organization’s initiatives have historically been at the forefront of innovation in health care, and the forward-thinking, collaborative approach that the member organizations bring to the table will be critical as the implementation of health care reform becomes a reality.”

In addition to her board position with the NBCH, Pare sits on the National Committee for Quality Assurance Standards Committee and the National Advisory Council of the California Health Benefits Review Program. She also participates on the Minnesota Health Care Reform Review Council, the Minnesota Alliance for Patient Safety, the Minnesota Chartered Value Exchange and the MN HIT Advisory Group. Pare is co-chair of Minnesota’s Smart Buy Alliance, an alliance of public and private purchasers committed to the alignment of value-based purchasing strategies.
