Oversight Strengthened by New Committee Structures and Enhanced Reporting

TAMPA, FL, August 19, 2010 -- South Tampa business leader and attorney Dennis Meyers has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance (TBWA), effective immediately.  His appointment by the TBWA Board is in effect through June 30, 2012.

“Our search ultimately determined that Dennis Meyers is the best person to lead the Board of Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance into the future because he has such a visible and active role in the Tampa Bay business community,” said Ed Peachey, President and CEO, TBWA. “Dennis has the vision, integrity and community connections we need to help TBWA realize its full potential in this challenging economic climate.  His experience with issues critical to the region’s economic health will help guide us in providing quality workforce services to Hillsborough County job seekers and employers.”

Meyers is a partner with the law firm of Barr, Murman & Tonelli, P.A., in Tampa, and concentrates his practice in civil litigation and insurance defense. He currently serves as President-Elect of the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce.  Meyers also is the Vice President of the Tampa-based international non-profit organization, Global Action Coalition, as well as a member of the Florida Bar and the Hillsborough County Bar Association.

“I am honored that the Board has placed its trust in me to lead TBWA in its commitment to fiscal responsibility, operational transparency and in the efficient, timely delivery of important job seeker and employer services,” said Meyers. “Access to a qualified and skilled workforce is the cornerstone of an economically vibrant community.

“By addressing the developmental needs of the workforce in Hillsborough County, and understanding the unique workforce needs of Tampa Bay’s business community, TBWA is well-positioned to work together with its economic development partners to help strengthen our business climate,” Meyers said.

Meyers graduated from Penn State University with a B.A. in International Politics, and a Minor in Middle East Studies.  He moved to Tampa shortly after graduating from law school at Roger Williams University School of Law in Bristol, Rhode Island. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman and on active duty in Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.

The TBWA Board of Directors is being restructured and is being expanded to include a new One-Stop Committee to oversee operations of the new workforce services contractor, Arbor Education and Training.

“Arbor was hired by the Board to ensure effective service delivery and provide the most beneficial workforce programs possible for job seekers and employers in Hillsborough County at all three TBWA career service centers,” said Peachey.

“We believe additional Board committees, with expanded participation by members of the business community, will help provide guidance, share best practices and open new doors of opportunity for us and for our clients in the community,” Peachey said.
