YOUTH COMPLETE SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM READY FOR WORKFORCE
TAMPA, Fla. – August 20, 2010 – As a culmination of a summer-long youth training program, today more than 40 young people, who have completed training programs in CNA, Microsoft Office Specialist, Computer A+, will celebrate “what they did on their summer vacations” to help better prepare them for entering the workforce. The young people who completed the program through HCC are part of Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance’s Summer Youth training and employment program that provided real-world training and work readiness for youth ages 14-24. The ceremony will take place today at 1:00 p.m. at The Corporate Training Center @ HCC at 39 Columbia Drive on Davis Island.
“This program offered a chance for local youth to learn about career interests and helped prepare them for existing and future job possibilities through career exploration, leadership training, and actual on-the-job training,” said Linda Callaghan, Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance Project Director. “Our goal was to provide young people in our community the tools they will need to be productive members of Tampa Bay’s future workforce.”
Many completed CNA, Microsoft Office Specialist, Computer A+ and Career Readiness Classes. Over a 180 young people also participated in a training and employment program which provided career training and then matched them with one of 51 different employers for actual work experience. In all, almost 500 youths completed different summer employment programs throughout the Hillsborough County area sponsored by Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance in partnership with Hillsborough Community College and Hernando Employment & Training Association.
