The Big Easter Getaway
Make the most of the long weekend with a mini-break
Easter is one of the busiest times of the year for travel – last year nearly six million people passed through London’s Heathrow Airport.
The long bank holiday weekend offers many people their first chance of the year to get away and take a break. Of course, there’s the decision about whether to stay in the UK or holiday abroad, and each option has its pros and cons.
UK weather can be unpredictable at the best of times, and the Easter weekend could offer snow or sun – there’s no guarantee! If you venture further afield, southern Europe can be more pleasant at this time of year.
Whatever type of Easter break you’re looking for, there’s a destination for you:
Head to the Med:
Fancy lots of sunshine but want to avoid the crowds? Try a trip to Majorca or Ibiza, where the tourist season hasn’t kicked off yet, but the weather is warm. Prices will be lower than in the middle of summer, and if you book early you might pick up a bargain flight with a budget airline.
Book into a boutique hotel:
Take a look at Croatia or try Greece and Turkey’s stylish hotels, which are a great base for a relaxing break in the sun.
Glam it up long-haul:
The hotspots of Dubai and Miami are ideal for a city-style break with guaranteed good weather, and lots of shopping opportunities.
Catch the last of the snow:
Ski season is coming to an end, so grab your final fling on the slopes – go for a high altitude resort in Austria or France for a better chance of snow. If you have time to go further afield, the ski resorts of Canada are worth a look
Brave the British weather:
Cross your fingers and hope for sun, but pack your woollies and enjoy the scenery. Devon, Cornwall and the Isle of Wight have beautiful beaches you can enjoy whatever the weather.
If you do decide to head abroad, you can skimp on the costs of flights and accommodation, but don’t be tempted to skip the Travel Insurance. A good Travel Insurance policy will give you peace of mind if you fall ill, lose your luggage or have to cancel.
