PEGASUS LAUNCHES RESALES SERVICE

Older people often require intense support during the buying process and very little ever comes up that we have not handled before

Without a doubt the best people to sell a retirement property are those who live and breathe this unique property niche every working day. It is, therefore, a natural step for Pegasus Retirement Homes – one of Britain’s most respected and established retirement property developers - to launch an in-house resales service so that their owners (or heirs) can have the benefit of Pegasus’ staff and experience in the sale of their apartments in Pegasus developments.

Success has been almost immediate – with an average uplift from the original selling price of 5% and one property achieved a 16% increase on the original price.  The average selling period is approximately four months (this is well above the national average for retirement property).

Peter Askew, CEO of Pegasus Retirement Homes, explains: “With this new service, our owners will now be able to trust Pegasus’ staff with their resale and know that their home is in safe hands; more importantly, they know that the sale will be handled by someone who understands the market and the needs of the elderly.”

Peter adds: “Older people often require intense support during the buying process and very little ever comes up that we have not handled before.”

With a resale, one of the company’s trained professionals will visit the owner (or their families) to give them advice on what the property should sell for, what decoration or cleaning is required and any “decluttering” that should be done to ensure that the apartment looks its best. They will accompany all the viewings and, as Pegasus has a large database of people actively looking for a retirement property, they can ensure that the property is seen immediately by buyers looking for an apartment in that location at that price. Pegasus will negotiate the best price and oversee sale through to the exchange of contracts, completion, moving in and post completion.

As Peter concludes: “This is a one-stop service, we are the only point of contact and, because we will see the entire process through, it can save our owners (and buyers) time, money and stress. We build a unique bond of trust that lasts long after our owners move into one of our apartments, so it is only right that we should extend this to ensuring that they get the best possible advice and service when the time comes to sell. In some developments we have both new and resale properties which means we can offer buyers more choice.”

“There has been some media coverage recently of heirs who have found it hard to sell their parents’ retirement homes and incurred unwelcome costs on the property during the process. Whilst we cannot guarantee to sell a property, we know that we are the best placed to ensure that the family gets the best service and that a sale takes places as soon as possible. We understand the upheaval and stress that the families are usually under and work very hard to find acceptable solutions for them. It is a service that should give our owners peace of mind that their home is safe and that their heirs can get the best possible advice and service.”
