FALL INTO ARTS SEASON WITH COOL CULTURAL AND SPORTING EVENTS IN SAN JOSE, CA

SAN JOSE, CA (August 3, 2011) – The long days of summer may soon be over, but with the arrival of San Jose’s long-awaited arts and cultural season, the earlier nights will light up with dance, visual arts and song throughout the city.

“More and more travelers are discovering that San Jose is a great destination for top-notch, easy-to-access arts and cultural activities – most within walking distance or short light rail ride from their hotels,” said Bill Sherry, CEO of Team San Jose, which runs the Convention Center and Cultural Facilities. “San Jose is also becoming more known for our annual sporting events and festivals, attracting A-list events such as the Rock n’ Roll Marathon and Mexican Heritage and Mariachi Festival.  Fall also brings the arrival of the holidays, beginning with our world-famous Winchester Mystery House’s new ‘Fright Night’ tours for Halloween.”

ARTS & CULTURE EVENTS

“Islamic Science Rediscovered” California Premiere Exhibit (Opens Sept. 3) – The Tech Museum hosts the California premiere of this limited global engagement touring exhibit which celebrates the contribution of Muslim scholars to science and technology during the Golden Age of the Islamic World (circa 8th to 18th centuries CE) and the influence of their discoveries and inventions on contemporary society. www.thetech.org.

FESTIVALS (Sports & Music)

¡VivaFest!  San Jose Mexican Heritage and Mariachi Festival (Sept. 18-29) – This signature San Jose event, celebrating its 20th anniversary, celebrates the city’s rich Mexican heritage with the largest festival of its type in the nation. Featuring music and dance workshops, including the Festival’s first “mariachi college bowl,” special events, outdoor celebrations and performances by music legends such as Vikki Carr and Los Lobos’ Cesar Rosas, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, Mariachi Sol de Mexico, Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles and the Mariachi Cobre. vivafest.org/tickets

Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon/Health & Fitness Expo presented by Power Balance (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) -For two days, more than 60 exhibitors at the San Jose Convention Center will offer free samples, showcase the latest in running gear, sports apparel, health & nutritional information and more.
