Tecnomen to supply a paging system

TECNOMEN TO SUPPLY A PAGING SYSTEM WORTH EUR 7 MILLION TO BELGIAN A.S.T.R.I.D. Tecnomen Corporation is to supply a nation-wide paging system to A.S.T.R.I.D., which is the Belgian public-safety and security network operator. The value of the delivery is about EUR 7 million. The final value of the deal will be determined according to the actual delivery form, depending for instance on the number of base stations delivered. In the first phase a central switch and 20 base stations are delivered to the area of East Flanders in Belgium. The aim is to extend the system and its paging services to other Belgian provinces during the years 2001 and 2002. The deal strengthens Tecnomen's position as paging systems provider and supports the business unit's strategy to focus on the development of paging systems for public authorities. Tecnomen's paging systems are well suited to supplement the services provided by Tetra-networks. The users of public authority networks are mainly the police, fire brigades and other safety and rescue services. The system will be built alongside the Tetra-network, which is a digital mobile radio communications network. A.S.T.R.I.D.'s Tetra-network is based on Nokia's Tetra-technology. "This deal is our first paging systems delivery aimed for the purposes of public authorities using Tetra-networks. It opens us a new and promising market with great potential for the next couple of years. Tecnomen's competitive position in this market segment is very strong", says Business Director Timo Kangas, Paging Systems. A.S.T.R.I.D. is an operator owned by the Belgian Federal State.
