TECNOMEN RECEIVES USD 4.7 MILLION ORDER FROM BRASIL TELECOM

Brasil Telecom has awarded Tecnomen a value-added service contract to
deliver and install a complete messaging solution and prepaid system.
Tecnomen will provide Brasil Telecom with prepaid and voice mail
systems for its current fixed-line operations, and voice mail and
prepaid systems, a Multimedia Messaging Service Centre (MMSC) and WAP
gateway for its new mobile operation. The deal is worth approximately
USD 4.7 million.

Brasil Telecom, one of the largest telecommunications companies in
Brazil, was one of three fixed-line operators formed when the industry
was deregulated in 1999. Through its nine operating subsidiaries,
Brasil Telecom operates in nine different states throughout central
and southern Brazil, serving 34 per cent of the country, including the
capital.

"We are confident that our new customer Brasil Telecom will be
satisfied with the services Tecnomen delivers. Our systems and service
solutions will provide advanced and easy-to-use features to Brasil
Telecom’s subscribers and will allow them to implement even more
innovative services in the future," says Oscar Fernandez, Managing
Director, Tecnomen Latin America. "This contract is important to
Tecnomen because it deepens the already well-established partnership
between us and operators in Latin America in the provision of value-
added services not just for cellular services but also for fixed line
operations. Services like voice mail and prepaid for fixed line
operations are expected to grow significantly in Latin America in the
coming years."

The modular Tecnomen Messaging Solution will allow Brasil Telecom to
address all aspects of today’s messaging needs, and it provides them
with a solid framework for meeting future requirements with the most
advanced technology available. With Tecnomen’s Messaging Solution,
Brasil Telecom can build suitable combinations of services to respond
to the needs of their market segments and target groups.

With the help of the feature-rich Tecnomen Prepaid platform, Brasil
Telecom can selectively group and target the features provided by the
platform to meet the needs of their specific market segments. Tecnomen
Prepaid does not impose any restrictions on SIM card or handset type.
It simultaneously supports different protocols including TDMA, GSM and
CDMA. It supports SMS charging and roaming, allowing subscribers to
benefit from a prepaid service while travelling abroad.
