Value-driven policy management enables service providers to get maximum return from their assets, finds Tecnotree whitepaper

Telecom IT solutions provider Tecnotree Corporation today released a whitepaper on Value-driven Policy Management which explores how communications service providers can leverage the growing capability of policy management to create new business opportunities, entirely new value chains and highly granular value propositions.

Kaj Hagros, President and CEO of Tecnotree, said: “Value-driven policy management is a powerful paradigm that helps service provider to get maximum return on their existing assets and customer relationships, while helping build the business case for future business investment. It will help them create agile responses to changing customer demographics and tough marketplace conditions.”

At present, many service providers are facing a real dilemma, having to invest in new technologies and increase current debt levels, or risk falling behind competitors, being forced to position themselves towards the lower end of the market and focusing on price-driven propositions. However, by activating the combined capabilities of online charging and policy management, a value-driven approach allows service providers to build highly granular services. This translates into a broad range of products and bundles, something which enables service providers to refine the offerings they make to customers, leading to a virtuous cycle of customer retention and company growth.

The whitepaper goes on to say that a key tenet of this is giving marketers the capability to segment resources at network, service and consumer level. Criteria could include the user, the specific device in use, customers’ spending habits and precise location.

Each segment can then be treated differently, allowing value-based pricing, based on a broad range of criteria.

“It must be possible to create these segments quickly and easily, and deploy them in near real-time. This means moving day-to-day control of policy management away from technology experts and into the service providers’ marketing departments,” continued Hagros.
