Funet the First Customer Connected to the Tele1 Europe Nordic Broadband Network Funet, the Finnish University and Research Network service provided by CSC - Center for Scientific Computing, has leased broadband data connections from Tele1 Europe. Funet was the first customer to be connected to the Tele1 Europe data broadband network, with the first connections in the Helsinki metropolitan area delivered on schedule in December. Tele1 Europe's network is Europe's fastest broadband network for data, Internet and voice services with an initial capacity to customers of up to 1 gigabit. We want to be at the center of development for different technologies and with Tele1 Europe we have created a flexible partnership, says Funet Director Markus Sadeniemi. Our aim is to provide Funet users with the fastest possible access to both the Internet and to the top-speed networks of the research community. With Tele1 Europe we can test the latest IP- based technology and stay in the forefront of application development. The Funet networks requirements for reliability and security is always increasing. To be able to meet these requirements, Funet needs solutions that are redundant and cost efficient, as well as easily maintainable. Tele1 Europe provides broadband connections for Funet's trunk network with three sites and a connection to Ficix. Funet is among the most advanced providers of Internet connections for universities and the research community in the Nordic countries and in the world, says Ivar Strömberg, Chief Executive Officer of Tele1 Europe. We are proud to be able to supply them with connections that promote Funet among the next generation of Internet services alongside Internet2 in the United States, CA*net3 in Canada and Surfnet in the Netherlands.
