Tele1 Europe: Leading European Alternative Carriers Form Internet Peering and Interconnection Partnership Tele1 Europe Holding AB (to be changed to Song Networks Holding AB) (NASDAQ: TEUR, OM Stockholm Stock Exchange: TEUR), and leading European alternative network operators, CompleTel, Jazztel and Versatel Telecom, today announced that they have entered into a commercial partnership to exchange voice and Internet traffic through the interconnection of the companies' networks at a common interconnection point in London. Through this partnership, the companies intend to collectively pool their traffic in order to lower IP transit costs and international voice interconnection costs as well as develop additional network synergies. The network operators plan to leverage this partnership to develop new products and services such as pan-European IP-VPN (Virtual Private Network) services and may extend the interconnection points to include other major European cities. "Interconnecting our networks to exchange IP and voice traffic will produce tangible benefits immediately in the form of reduced costs for all four operators," stated William Pearson, Chairman of CompleTel. Antonio Carro, CEO of Jazztel commented, "Since we all have a presence in London today, it is relatively easy and makes sense for us to begin to work together." "The partnership will also explore other opportunities to work together to save costs and/or provide new and innovative services to our respective customer bases," remarked Ivar Strömberg, CEO of Tele1 Europe. CEO of Versatel Telecom, Raj Raithatha observed, "I believe that we will have the opportunity to expand this commercial relationship to several interconnection points over time and I would not be surprised if we had the opportunity to involve other alternative carriers from additional markets." As a result of the interconnection agreements, the combined coverage of the networks will extend to within reach of the majority of Western European business traffic, including that of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. In these markets, the combined fiber footprint will span more than 15,000 km of backbone network and 6,100 km of local access extensions.
