Tele1 Europe secures access to Telenors network, signs historical agreement Through this agreement, Tele1 Europe (TEUR) has become the first telecommunications operator to enter into an agreement with Telenor concerning 'operator access' (LLUB) in Norway. The agreement enables Tele1 Europe to combine Telenor´s access network with its own fibre-optic network and offer both services and subscriptions to companies in towns and cities throughout Norway. Tele1 Europe can supply its own services via the access network and will be able to offer 30 times the transfer rate in the link using DSL technology. Tele1 Europe will launch the service over the summer and, together with Telenor, will be the only operator able to offer DSL in Norway. With DSL, 30 telephone conversations can take place simultaneously via a normal telephone line ("copper pair"). Parts of the capacity can also simultaneously be used for Internet-access. Tele1 Europe is aiming to be the leader in the Nordic region in the broadband sector for both fixed connections and mobile (UMTS). The agreement with Telenor is an important part of the organisation's plan to offer high-speed connections to companies in most towns and cities in Norway. The company is planning to enter into similar agreements elsewhere in the Nordic region. - DSL will complement our other broadband products well. In areas with many or large companies, we will offer high transmission speeds via fibre- optic cable. Using DSL, we will have an efficient and reasonably priced product for small and medium-sized companies across the country", says Pål E Vegard, Managing Director at Tele1 Europe AS. The access network was one of the last areas of dominance for the telecommunications monopoly until Telenor opened up its network to other st players on 1 April, through the product "operators access". - I am pleased that the negotiations with Tele1 Europe have been concluded to the benefit of both parties. The agreement confirms that the conditions for access rights to the access network are such that operators are interested in entering into agreements. A number of other operators are also ready to negotiate agreements for operator access", says vice President Stein Gustavsen at Telenor Nett AS.
