Tele1 Europe signs first agreement in the Telenor/Telia Scandinavian Ring The data- and telecommunications operator Tele1 Europe has become the first customer in Telenor/Telia's Scandinavian Ring. The value of the order is almost a quarter of a billion SEK and Tele1 Europe will in that way get access to fibre in Telenor/Telias Nordic network. The first delivery will be made in February 2000. The agreement means that Tele1 Europe will initially gain access to fibre in the Scandinavian Ring. The space available will then gradually be increased during the coming half-year. We are now able to provide companies in the Nordic region unlimited broadband capacity for data- and voice solutions between the largest cities in the Nordic countries where Tele1 Europe is currently building its own fibre-optic networks. There are several reasons why we chose Telenor/Telia as our supplier, but the principal reasons are quality, Telenor/Telia's ability to deliver earlier than any of its competitors and Telenor/Telia´s superb service organisation, says Ivar Strömberg, CEO for Tele1Europe. The Scandinavian Ring is the fibre-optic cable that will link together Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo and Malmö/Copenhagen. The investment in the Scandinavian Ring totals almost one billion SEK and means that Telenor/Telia will have a fibre-optic network that other operators can hire. Telenor/Telia is making this investment because of the considerable demand for network capacity in Scandinavia from both national and international operators who want access to a high-speed network. The deal marks the first sale of capacity in the Scandinavian Ring. The agreement opens up the possibility of new deals and opportunities, says Stefan Mokvist, sales manager at Telia Nät.
