Benima, part of the Teleca group, has been commissioned by Billerud to supply a customised PaperLine® system for role, bale and warehouse management at the Gruvön mill. The system, which will be one of the most advanced in the world, will substantially increase efficiency while improving the overview of the entire production process. Benima estimates the initial value of the order to be about a million euros. In addition Billerud also has options to implement similar solutions at the other mills in the group.

Billerud aims to modernise Gruvöns Bruk so that it attains higher productivity, flexibility and quality. To enable this the group’s order processes will be consolidated in a single system, from the planning stage through all the phases of production to the point where the finished products are ready to leave the mill. Benima’s PaperLine has been judged the system that most closely matches Billerud’s requirements for project implementation and results. “The PaperLine system is one of the most modern available, and because it’s based on standardised technology it’s also future-proof. This, combined with the fact that the system is a complete solution that can be specially adapted to our circumstances, is why we chose Benima as our supplier,” says Peter Marklund, IT manager at Gruvön. “We’ve worked with Benima before and we’re convinced this will turn out to be a good project,” says Mats Helmerud, IT manager at Billerud Skärblacka, who was also involved in the final phase of the evaluation. “It’s very inspiring to be entrusted with this project by Billerud and be able to contribute our expertise in making production systems more efficient,” says Robert Danielson, area manager of Pulp&Paper at Benima. “Since PaperLine was upgraded to the .NET platform in 2004, it has proved to be both very competitive and very successful.” Among other things, Benima’s system will meet the following requirements: - The traceability of all rolls, from the winder to loading. - The provision of information via modern tools to form the basis of productivity-improving decisions. - The adaptation of Billerud’s group IT strategy of a joint market system and mill-specific production systems. The roll-management system implemented at Gruvön will be able to be applied at other mills. The system, which is one of the most advanced available, runs on Benima’s own IT platform, which is based entirely on Microsoft’s .NET technology.
