The two companies are collaborating to enable dual display on TIs class leading OMAP 4 platform for Android

Malmö, Sweden – February 15, 2010 – Teleca, a world-leading supplier of solutions and services to the mobile industry today announced that is has been working closely with Texas Instruments, the world’s leading semiconductor company to extend the Android platform to support innovative dual display experience for Android platform. The two companies have been working closely to bring a new user experience to Android. By extending key aspects of the Android platform such as the graphics framework, including components such as Surface Flinger, a demonstration platform has been created to enable applications to run independently on a second display. This has been made possible by leveraging the combination of Teleca’s world leading experience with Android and the power of the latest OMAP 4 platform from Texas Instruments. The demonstrator, which is the first step to enabling full dual display support for Android, is being shown at the Texas Instruments´ stand Hall 8, stand 8A84) and showcases several initial use cases. The first is the ability to select applications on one display but have them launch on the second display. Another use case being demonstrated is the ability to browse the media gallery on one display while showing pictures on the other. “We believe that implementing support for dual display support for Android is an exciting development for the consumer electronics markets as device vendors seek new ways to differentiate their offerings. Working with Texas Instruments on their latest OMAP platform to create this demonstrator has enabled Teleca to further demonstrate its ability to solve complex technical challenges.” comments Andrew Till, Vice President, Solutions Marketing, Teleca. “Thanks to our collaboration with Teleca we can now be looking forward to provide dual-display functionality on the OMAP 4 platform, enabling new innovative and rich user experiences for the increasingly popular Android OS” says Erhun Arkan, Business and Marketing Director, OMAP Wireless Ecosystem, Texas Instruments.
