Teleca has been appointed Official IT Supplier to the 2006 European Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden. Among other things, Teleca will provide the event’s official web site, which is based on an advanced technical platform and aimed at millions of people interested in sport as well as the media and competition officials.

The 19th European Athletics Championships will take place at Ullevi in Gothenburg, 7–13 August 2006. The event, which is being jointly arranged by the City of Gothenburg and the Swedish Athletic Association, is expected to attract many thousands of spectators and at least 65 million television viewers every day. “As a consulting company in the IT and telecommunications industry the event will bring a lot of positive exposure for us in many countries. At the very least our business is highly international,” says Thomas Pantzar, deputy CEO of Teleca. Toralf Nilsson, General Secretary of the European Athletics Championships, comments: “Events of this size and importance are increasingly demanding technically. In Teleca we have a partner with a high level of expertise and a very good reputation, who together with us can develop a stable IT environment in all areas.” Development in several stages The development of the official web site is taking place in several stages. To begin with, as part of an interim web site, Teleca has created a database of volunteers that already contains over 1,500 people who have registered as volunteer helpers. Another 1,500 or more are expected to register before August. Work is now in full swing to develop the full-scale web site, which is planned to be in operation by the beginning of August. In its role as Official IT Supplier and so-called National Partner, Teleca is also responsible for technical project management, hosting and a help desk, which means that during the event the company will be responsible for both personal and automatic support of the web site 24 hours a day. Starting lists, results and other competition facts must be posted on the site without delay. “As such we’ll be supplying a package solution, or service, rather than a technical solution,” says Nils Malmros, Business Unit Manager at Teleca. “One of the aims of the web site is to make the work easier and relieve some of the strain on the organisers, which of course is also of relevance to all companies and authorities with advanced web solutions. In working with this site we are for example drawing on experience from previous solutions supplied to the labour market boards of Sweden and Denmark.” The development of advanced IT solutions takes place in conjunction with Teleca’s Enterprises & Operators division, which continuously works towards establishing long-term relationships with authorities and the IT departments of larger companies. Here confidence is built on an understanding of the customer’s business in combination with comprehensive in-depth technical knowledge.
