Teleca helps Swedish car manufacturer secure ideas using Anoto functionality Teleca has been contracted to introduce the Anoto concept at the Volvo assembly plant in Olofström, Sweden. Initially, a pilot project involving three users will be conducted. The aim is to shorten lead times and increase quality assurance in the operations. Anoto has created a global de facto standard for digital paper. The concept, which was recently launched commercially in Sweden, makes it possible to send handwritten text over the wireless network. All it requires are a digital pen, ordinary paper printed with the Anoto pattern and a cellphone. One of the first customer projects using this technology in the world is now being carried out by Volvo Car Corporation. Teleca is adapting the Anoto concept to the customer's requirements and situation. The purpose is to cut lead times and quality-assure drafts and sketches that are often done "on the fly," far from desk and computer. Anoto functionality ensures that ideas are conveyed to the right place immediately - without risk of anything disappearing en route. "We believe Anoto functionality has great potential and we're eager to test it in reality," says team leader Nils-Göran Friström at Volvo Cars. "The project, which will be launched this summer, will run for a couple of months. After that, we will evaluate the results before deciding how we might proceed." "With Anoto functionality, the pen transmits all information to the receiver as an image," says Lars Kruuse, business area manager at Teleca Software Solutions. "Here, Teleca creates a function whereby half the paper is reserved for drawings and half for writing. The handwritten information can then be directly transferred as text by a character reader - in the pilot project the text takes the form of e-mail. The idea is that it will be integrated with the customer's system at some later stage."
