Ragn-Sells, an international resource and waste management company with operations in 6 countries and a combined turnover of 4 billion NOK, has chosen TeleComputing as its new IT-operation provider in Norway. The agreement means that Ragn-Sells’ Norwegian operation, and its employees in 16 offices in Norway, will have IT delivered as a service from TeleComputing’s centralized, “one-to-many” IT platform which to date is crucial in the management of TeleComputing’s 800 business customers and 50.000 users. The agreement has an expected value of 12 MNOK.

TeleComputing’s delivery includes the set-up and operation of a centralized IT solution with industry- and office related applications, desktop clients for the company’s users in Norway as well as the responsibility for communications and helpdesk functions.

- IT is increasingly becoming an important support function in our industry. By letting TeleComputing handle the IT-operation we can focus more time and effort on our own core business. TeleComputing’s delivery model fits very well with our requirements for a secure and flexible IT-solution where our employees can work efficiently no matter where they are located. The demands our organization and our customers put on operation stability and it-security were important criteria for choosing TeleComputing as our new it-operation provider, says Odd Are Austrheim, CFO in Ragn-Sells AS.

Focus on IT and the environment
Ragn-Sell’s core business is in the area of resource and waste management. The company handles yearly more than 300 000 tons (2010) of waste on behalf of its customers and ensures that most of this waste is reused and recycled (including energy recovery). This makes a significant contribution to reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

TeleComputing’s it-operation concept represents in itself a big positive impact on the environment. TeleComputing’s core business is based on delivering IT-solutions from a one-to-many platform in a centralized environment. Thin clients, popular amongst many of TeleComputing’s users, are very energy efficient and extremely quiet. Also, many customers utilize most of the common, centralized services such as security services (fire wall, antivirus, antispam, IDS, etc), storage and backup, print servers, etc, which means that the individual customer does not require dedicated equipment for using such services. This, and the fact that customers usually don’t need to own local server equipment, are examples of how the IT-industry can reduce the environmental impact on the Planet and its natural resources.

- We are very proud to have been awarded this contract by Ragn-Sells, a leading company in the resource and waste management industry. We experience an increasing demand for delivering environmental friendly it-solutions that also support our customers’ requirements for reducing the strain on the environment. As an it-operation service provider we would like to be a good role model by integrating environment thinking in our day-to-day operation. We achieve this by taking appropriate actions in our own company and with our delivery platform, as well as actions carried out in co-operation with our partners, says Sven Tore Kaasa, CEO in TeleComputing AS.
