Ericsson speeds time-to-market of next-generation AXE switch with Telelogic Tau MALMÖ, Sweden, April 27, 2000 - Telelogic AB (Stockholm Stock Exchange:TLOG), the leading supplier of software development solutions for the communications industry, today announced that Ericsson, Ltd., has adapted its AXE switch for use in the British Telecommunications (BT) trunk network using Telelogic's Telelogic Tau development and testing tools. Ericsson has specifically chosen Telelogic's Telelogic Tau SDL Suite and TTCN Suite for use at their Burgess Hill, England location. According to Colin Grealish, technical coordinator at Ericsson, Ltd., "Ericsson's Burgess Hill site has a high degree of competence and experience with formal languages such as SDL. Telelogic's tools have cut months off our project lead-time as well as reduced costs considerably." Ericsson chose Telelogic Tau based on its SDL (Specification Description Language) and MSC (Message Sequence Chart) capabilities. Ericsson already has seen the new environment reduce costs and time-to- market of its AXE switches worldwide. Essential parts of the Ericsson- Telelogic cooperation include an adaption of Telelogic Tau that enables SDL to be used as the basis for AXE design utilizing full code-generation technology, as well as tools for bringing legacy code to SDL. "Telelogic Tau is the defacto standard for telecommunications companies the world over," said Anders Lidbeck, president and CEO of Telelogic. "Telelogic has a long-standing history of successes with Ericsson and we're extremely proud to be part of Ericsson's next- generation AXE switch." Ericsson recently delivered its first six AXE switches to BT. Ericsson's and BT's goal is to replace BT's existing System X trunk switches with the new state-of-the-art switches. This process will be a considerable challenge for both companies since the switches will have to be installed into a live network without effecting service. BT's network handles extremely high volumes of information from all over the world, 24- hours-a-day, and can not afford any downtime while installing the new switches. Once the project is complete, Ericsson's next-generation AXE switches will provide BT's existing telephone network with higher capacity and an enhanced internet-enabled network architecture. The switches will be installed in BT's inter-city network and will support the rapidly increasing volumes of Internet traffic, as well as voice and data traffic. About Telelogic Tau Telelogic Tau is comprised of tools for the analysis, design and testing of event-driven, real-time applications. Telelogic Tau merges the graphical notation of UML (Unified Modeling Language) in the Telelogic Tau UML Suite, with the design and development language of SDL (Specification Description Language) in the Telelogic Tau SDL Suite. This, together with the Telelogic Tau TTCN Suite, provides a complete software development, simulation and testing environment for real-time and communications applications. Telelogic Tau offers advanced project control functions, as well as simulation without the need to write code in the implementation language, interactive generation of sequence diagrams, automatic generation of test cases, and test case simulation and execution. It also includes comprehensive, world-class UML support. By reducing the time spent in each of the analysis and design phases, and especially during the target construction and test phases, the entire software development cycle is reduced.
