Telelogic and Arexsys Announce System Design Industry's First SDL Interface for Hardware-Software Co-Design Malmö, Sweden, - October 18, 1999 - Telelogic AB (Stockholm Stock Exchange:TLOG), the leading supplier of visual tools for system design and test, as well as software development, and Arexsys S.A., the leader in architecture exploration systems, today announced the development of an SDL to VHDL interface that enables electronic system designers to use Arexsys' ArchiMate to perform architecture exploration of system designs developed with the Telelogic Tau toolset. SDL, the International Telecommunication Union's specification and description language, is a formal graphical notation that is expected to be integrated into the system-level design language (SLDL) which the electronics industry is developing. "Developing this interface is part of our strategy to set the industry standard for hardware-software co-design," said Francois Constant, president of Arexsys. "Telelogic has one of the most widely used system design environments. Customers have requested that we support the Telelogic environment and SDL as a primary language." "The Arexsys SDL to VHDL interface will be a natural fit for Telelogic's tools," said Anders Lidbeck, president and chief executive officer at Telelogic. "Arexsys' architecture exploration system fills a variety of customer needs. The interface makes it easier to verify the designer's functional and performance requirements and reduces time-to-market through system-level design reuse." About Telelogic Tau Telelogic Tau is the world's leading SDL real-time system design environment. Telelogic Tau combines UML (Unified Modeling Language) and SDL for a state-of- the-art development process for real-time systems. Additionally, Telelogic Tau includes tools for writing test suites in the TTCN (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation) and ASN.1 (The Abstract Syntax Notation number 1) standards. Telelogic Tau is highly suitable for design in many different application areas. It is specially targeted for real-time systems with parallel, independent activities communicating through discrete events. Typically SDL and Telelogic Tau are used within the communications domain, but also within the fields of aerospace, medical technology, transport, defense, and factory automation. Application complexity may range from simple protocols to large and complex satellite systems. About ArchiMate ArchiMate is an architecture exploration system for electronic system designers. The key technologies in ArchiMate are communication synthesis, user-driven hardware-software partitioning, hardware and software automatic code generation at the register-transfer level (RTL), VHDL, and hardware- software interface synthesis. From an executable model of the system-level specification written in SDL, ArchiMate -- with input from the user-- synthesizes the communications, allocates processors to the functions, partitions the design into hardware and software, and automatically creates software code, interfaces, and hardware RTL code. Users can then evaluate the resulting architecture, using co- simulation techniques, and interactively change a hardware part into software, or software into hardware. Price and Availability The Telelogic interface will be available from Arexsys in Q4. It will be included in version 1.1 of ArchiMate. ArchiMate is priced starting at $125,000 in the U.S. and Euro125,000 in Europe.
