Telelogic and Mentor Graphics deliver integrated solution for early system-level verification and rapid prototyping PARIS, France - March 27, 2000 - Mentor Graphics Corp. (NASDAQ: MENT) and Telelogic AB (Stockholm Stock Exchange: TLOG) today announced the availability of an integrated hardware/software solution linking Mentor Graphics' Seamless Co-Verification Environment (CVE) and Telelogic Tau SDL Suite. The integrated tool solution is the result of a cooperative business and technical alliance announced in Oct. 1999. It enables early system-level verification and rapid prototyping for designers currently plagued with time-consuming process of hand-generating code to optimize a target processor. Embedded systems development typically involves the creation of hardware and software interfaces that must be tested concurrently to verify system functionality. Integration problems identified at an early stage reduce both the cost of identifying these problems and the cost to properly repair problems in either development software or virtual hardware. By directly connecting software and hardware development environments, Telelogic and Mentor Graphics allow developers to verify designs in their native development environments earlier than previously possible, while eliminating the need to create special non-reusable testing code for hardware and software respectively. "In embedded systems development, three to six weeks can be spent creating programs that test the basic functions of virtual hardware," said Serge Leef, general manager of Mentor Graphics SoC Verification Business Unit. "Directly connecting to the actual system software during the development process, reduces the need for external code development. There is the additional benefit of providing earlier access to speed the integration process." "Defects between hardware and software are isolated rapidly when the hardware and software engineers work within their native development environments," said Anders Lidbeck, chief executive officer and president of Telelogic. "Mentor's Seamless CVE interfaces with Telelogic Tau's simulator and performs co-verification before a physical prototype is built, therefore enabling early detection and correction of errors in the hardware/software interface. The integration of these tools shortens the development time for embedded systems, and reduces the number of hardware prototype iterations." The integration between Telelogic Tau and Seamless is currently supported by Seamless processor models for the Power PC family, NEC MIPS and M Core. Support for the ARM 9 and ARM 7 family processors will be available in Q2 2000. About Mentor Graphics Seamless CVE Linking the best in embedded software development tools with logic simulation, Mentor Graphics' Seamless CVE is the market leader in hardware/software co-verification with a 62% market share as reported by Dataquest. Seamless CVE delivers high performance co-verification months before a hardware prototype can be built, allowing software and hardware development to be parallel activities, removing the software from the critical path, and reducing the risk of hardware prototype iterations resulting from integration errors. User-controlled optimizations boost performance by isolating the logic simulator from software-intensive operations such as block memory transfers and algorithmic routines. About Telelogic Tau Telelogic Tau is comprised of tools for the analysis, design and testing of event-driven, real-time applications. Telelogic Tau merges the graphical notation of UML (Unified Modeling Language) in the Telelogic Tau UML Suite, with the design and development language of SDL (Specification Description Language) in the Telelogic Tau SDL Suite. This, together with the Telelogic Tau TTCN Suite, provides a complete software development, simulation and testing environment for large-scale communications applications. Telelogic Tau offers advanced project control functions -, as well as simulation without the need to write code in the implementation language, interactive generation of sequence diagrams, automatic generation of test cases, and test case simulation and execution. It also includes comprehensive, world-class UML support. By reducing the time spent in each of the analysis and design phases, and especially during the target construction and test phases, the entire software development cycle is reduced. About Telelogic AB Telelogic is the world's leading supplier of visual software development and test tools for real-time communicating systems.
