About the IEEE 802.11 standard The 802.11 standard, developed by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), provides a common set of operational rules to facilitate interoperability of wireless local area networking products from different vendors. The wireless local area networks with high- capacities could replace or complement wired networks in any local environment, for example offices, hotels, universities, airports etc. The standard today offer transmission rates of up to 54 Mbps. The 802.11 standard is partly based upon the SDL programming language, one of the technologies that Telelogic supports.
