Telelogictm Extends Software and Systems Development Lifecycle Management Leadership with DocExpresstm 3.0 Release - Automated Project Reporting and Documentation Process Simplifies and Enhances Collaboration - Malmö, Sweden and IRVINE, California - August 22, 2001 - Telelogic (Stockholm Stock Exchange:TLOG), the world-leading provider of solutions for advanced software and systems development, today announced the availability of DocExpresstm 3.0, the industry's most widely integrated automated reporting and documentation product. This is the first significant release of DocExpress since being acquired by Telelogic from ATA in December 2000. This release consolidates all previously available DocExpress products (DocIttm, DocExpress for Tautm, DocExpress/Factorytm for Rational Rose, and DocExpress/Wordtm for DOORS®) into a single, integrated, open and scalable platform. DocExpress 3.0 simplifies and automates the task of gathering, formatting and publishing data from various systems and software development tools into archival and deliverable documentation. With more integration to third-party development tools and an open, scalable architecture, data can be imported from popular Telelogic tools like DOORS®, Tau UMLtm Suite, and CM Synergytm, as well as other third-party content sources including Rational Rose, Microsoft Visio and the Microsoft Office suite. Additional tool links will be added both by Telelogic and third-party partners. "Real-time information is invaluable for understanding, maintaining and reusing enterprise assets," said Bill Philbin, senior vice president, global product organization at Telelogic. "As the development lifecycle becomes more complex, accurate project information can become the weak link, jeopardizing the ever-shrinking schedules of application development. As with other aspects of engineering, process automation has become the key element in making real-time information available to project teams. This is where DocExpress can really help today's organizations." According to Cliff Sadler, director business development for DocExpress, "Exporting and pasting disconnected fragments from individual project tools and then manually maintaining updates is no longer achievable in today's fast-paced development environment. By automating the process with DocExpress 3.0, organizations can dramatically reduce the effort and cost of developing, producing and maintaining up-to-date project reports or system documentation once and for all." Telelogic's commitment to open systems can also be seen in Version 3.0. "With its broad integration with third-party tools, organizations now have the freedom to build a 'best-of-breed' development solution yet still leverage the benefits of DocExpress," said Philbin. "The product's inherent flexibility also protects any existing investments they may have made." Addressing Industry "Pain Points" The robust capabilities contained in DocExpress 3.0 helps organizations address the four most significant documentation "pain points" currently facing the software and systems development industry: · Easy Access to Data - Until now, an automated way of combining or updating data from multiple tool repositories into a single concise view has not existed. DocExpress 3.0 enables information to be combined from non-connected data sources and formatted so the presentation is meaningful to the intended viewer. Advanced features ensure that data is reusable and accurately reflects the current state of the project. DocExpress also enables users to better access and leverage data quickly without the complexity of the gathering process. · Real-time, accurate reporting - Without automation, the creation and maintenance of project documentation quickly falls out-of-synch with the project. DocExpress enables users to establish "intelligent links" back to the source data, to enable interactive, or pre-scheduled refreshing of the documentation without sacrificing overall performance of the publishing system. · Time spent adjusting reports to conform to company/government formats - DocExpress enables users to automatically apply style and formatting to content as it is exported and assembled in final documents. This brings standardization to documents for even the largest organizations, without having to train users on document publishing features and operation. · Organizations overspend on deliverable documentation - For large or complex projects, there is often not enough time to select, format, export, and assemble project content by hand. Key engineers must be interrupted to assist in producing the documents, which creates unscheduled delays and unplanned cost increases. DocExpress can automatically capture and refresh content from multiple tools on demand or at pre-scheduled intervals. According to Sadler, systems and software engineers are not the only ones that will benefit from DocExpress 3.0. "Non-technical team members working in areas such as project and product documentation, marketing, business analysis, quality assurance and systems integration are facing similar challenges no matter what their technical expertise, and therefore can also make use of DocExpress' easy access to technical data." Configurations DocExpress 3.0 now consolidates all four configurations (DocIt, DocExpress/Word, DocExpress for Tau, and DocExpress/Factory) into a single integrated platform that features two customizable applications. DocExpress/Word enables users to interactively collect, format and publish information in Microsoft Word from multiple Telelogic and popular third-party development tools in real time. Because documents are being edited using Microsoft Word, DocExpress/Word is extremely easy- to-use as it presents a familiar interface to the user. The extracted content may be refreshed on demand to provide an accurate representation of the project in a timely fashion. Additionally, DocExpress/Word allows users to "design by experimentation" and then save that working document as a template for DocExpress/Factory if desired. DocExpress/Factory provides offline, automated reporting capabilities for the selection, gathering, formatting and publishing of project documentation in a variety of formats including Word, RTF, FrameMaker and native HTML. In addition to offering a highly scalable, repeatable document production environment, DocExpress/factory can automatically build and update development data into a self-updating Web area. This Web area is then made available for users outside of the development environment, without disturbing the project members, or requiring access to project databases. The product is template driven, and includes more than 200 pre-defined templates covering international industry and military recommended standards. Availability DocExpress 3.0 is currently available on Windows 98/2000/NT and requires Microsoft Word, FrameMaker or an HTML editor. It can run heterogeneously with mixed UNIX data servers and Windows clients. DocExpress may be configured with links to specific tools, which can be updated as tool selections change within an organization. This strategy preserves existing tool selections and empowers the user with flexible options as their needs change.
