Telelogic first tool vendor to provide full support for both UML and SDL Telelogic Tau significantly reduces time-to-market for large-scale projects MALMÖ, Sweden, September 30, 1999 - Telelogic AB announced today at the Embedded Systems Conference the availability of Telelogic's most innovative release to date, Telelogic Tau 3.6. Telelogic Tau 3.6 merges the graphical notation UML (Unified Modeling Language) with the design and development language SDL (Specification Description Language) into a complete software development and test environment for large-scale communications applications. The Telelogic Tau 3.6 release, combining UML and SDL, effectively offers advanced functions that no UML tools can match, including simulation without the need to write code in the implementation language, automatic generation of test cases, interactive generation of sequence diagrams, as well as other functions. It also includes comprehensive world-class UML support that reduces the time spent in the early analysis phase, and most notably during the target construction and test phases. These extremely advanced features, long known and appreciated in the SDL community, are now available to UML designers to help speed their products to market. The new SDL2000 standard, which is the absolute state-of-the-art in real-time programming, also defines a set of translation rules that link UML and SDL. Telelogic Tau 3.6 already supports this translation, giving UML a solid real- time semantic foundation for the analysis of real-time systems where even the smallest details matter. According to Anders Lidbeck, president and CEO of Telelogic AB, "Telelogic Tau 3.6 represents a major milestone for Telelogic. The merging of UML and SDL demonstrates our commitment to customers by providing them with a robust, UML- compliant, modeling and code generation solution for large-scale, real-time systems development." Telelogic Tau is the premier tool-of-choice for engineers worldwide working on large-scale telecom and datacom projects. It contains visual, object-oriented tools for all phases of the development process, from analysis and design to implementation and testing. While other UML tools on the market rely on proprietary and often incomplete solutions, Telelogic Tau offers integrated support for all major software engineering standards, including UML, SDL, TTCN (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation), C, C++, IDL and Java. This comprehensive approach for analyzing, designing, developing and testing complete and complex systems is ideal for multiple targets with different implementation languages and operating systems. New testing capabilities that reduce time-to-market Testing is a critical area of any design, both to ensure high quality and to cut down the time spent creating and executing tests. Telelogic Tau 3.6 incorporates new tool support for verifying MSC (Message Sequence Chart) test specifications directly in the SDL Simulator, as well as re-executing tests for regression testing. Among the many new features in this release, Telelogic Tau now includes a new tool, the TTCN Exerciser, which is the first complete TTCN Simulator and Validator. The TTCN Exerciser allows simulation, with or without a target, even in mixed mode. Additionally, it contains a scripting language, allows real-time clock simulation and produces log files as MSCs. Availability Telelogic Tau 3.6 is available on October 1 for Microsoft® Windows® NT and UNIX workstations.
