Telelogic Helps To Define Future Unified Modeling Languagetm (UMLtm) Standards MALMö, Sweden and IRVINE, California - August 21, 2001 - Telelogic (Stockholm Stock Exchange:TLOG), the world-leading provider of solutions for advanced software and systems development, today announced its participation in a major revision of the Unified Modeling Language (UML 2.0). As a member of U2 Partners, a consortium of Object Management Grouptm (OMGtm) vendors and users, Telelogic has helped develop and submit a joint proposal for UML 2.0. The submission team consists of leading companies that played key roles in the definition of the original UML standard and its subsequent evolution. Today's initial proposal, which is the first in a series, was submitted in response to the OMG's request for proposals issued last September. "UML is an open standard that has established itself as the common modeling language throughout the software and systems development industry," said Anders Lidbeck, President and Chief Executive Officer of Telelogic. "UML is critical to our customers, who rely on model-driven solutions to solve their business problems. As a leader in the software development industry, Telelogic can help the OMG update UML so that it keeps pace with the next generation of software tools, methods and best practices." In addition to Telelogic, the joint submission for UML 2.0 was proposed by representatives from the following companies: Alcatel, Computer Associates, Enea Business Software, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, I- Logix, IONA, Jaczone, Kabira Technologies, Motorola, Oracle, Rational Software, SOFTEAM, Unisys and WebGain. Building on the success of the first version of UML, the Partners plan to submit proposals that will make UML easier to apply, implement and customize. The proposed specification for UML 2.0 will be delivered in several phases, ending in 2002. "Our joint submission team has considerable breadth and depth," said Cris Kobryn, Chief Technologist at Telelogic and co-chair of the UML Revision Task Force at the OMG. "It includes a wide range of tool vendors and power users, all of whom are experts in UML and its applications. Our proposals will improve all aspects of UML. They will make it easier for users to customize and apply, and they will make it more efficient for vendors to implement." "Telelogic has played a leadership role in refining UML and developing new Model Driven Architecturetm standards," said Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO, Object Management Group. "Their strong commitment to UML and other open modeling standards positions them for great success in the software development tools market. We are very pleased that Telelogic and the U2 Partners are collaborating to ensure that UML 2.0 supports future software tools and methods."
