Press information For immediate release rd Telelogic's new 3G Pack provides unequalled support for 3 generation mobile communications MALMÖ, Sweden, May 9, 2000 - Telelogic AB (Stockholm Stock Exchange:TLOG), the leading supplier of design, development and testing tools for event-driven, real-time and communications applications, today announced the availability of a special 3G Pack for use with its powerful development environment - Telelogic Tau 4.0. The 3G Pack provides complete support for all UMTS standards and will play a key role in enabling future high-quality, wireless, multimedia communications for the mass market. This advanced technology will be embedded in applications such as hand- held devices, allowing, amongst other things, access to the internet on mobile phones, and being able to trade shares through a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). UMTS, or Universal Mobile Telephony System, is a third-generation (3G) mobile telephony specification for everything from mobile telephones to base stations and switches. Telelogic is currently the world's leading supplier of development tools to manufacturers of UMTS communications devices. Telelogic's products use the same standard languages in which the UMTS specifications are written, including SDL and MSC for protocol specification, ASN.1 to specify protocol messages, and TTCN for the conformance test suites of the protocols and services. Telelogic's 3G Pack provides Telelogic Tau 4.0 with enhanced support for all ASN.1 standards used in conjunction with SDL, to define interfaces covering X.680, X.681 and X.682, with X.683 to follow in a few months. It also supports automatic generation of PER encoding, relieving developers from time-consuming manual code generation and ensuring consistency with the system specification. Telelogic Tau's SDL code generator can generate 100% of the application code. It has been used in many GSM projects, which guarantees that it is also a fit for 3G. The micro-C code generator generates code for small embedded systems such as the UMTS terminals. It also provides full support for C++ and allows any C++ API to be easily integrated, making it even faster to get from the SDL specifications to final application code. The Telelogic Tau 4.0 3G Pack allows developers to import large parts of the UMTS standards, written in SDL, directly into the Telelogic Tau tools and simulate them. This process allows developers to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamic behavior of these specifications, which are orders of magnitude more complex than the GSM standards on which today's mobile telephony is based. The imported specifications also can be adapted to Telelogic Tau 4.0 tools to generate running application code, and to get early prototypes or UMTS simulators. "We believe that we have created the best available tool support on the market, and a solid investment that will pay for itself within the first year," said Ingemar Ljungdahl, Telelogic's CTO. "With increased time-to- market pressure, as telecom applications suppliers compete to be first-to- market with their newly developed products, gaining months of development time can determine the success of a UMTS project." rd "Telelogic is committed to the progress and verification of 3 Generation Partners Project (3GPP) standards," said Carl Olof Hydbom, director of Telelogic's UMTS team and an active supporter of UMTS standardization. "Together with our world-class UML support, Telelogic Tau is the only tool that can support all the development needs of 3G projects." Telelogic's CEO, Anders Lidbeck, adds, "the overwhelming response we have received from the major players in the 3G arena, together with the contracts we have already won, proves that we're on the right track." Availability Telelogic Tau 4.0 and the 3G Pack are currently available for Microsoft® Windows® 95, Windows NT 4.0 and UNIX workstations. About Telelogic Tau Telelogic Tau is comprised of tools for the analysis, design and testing of event-driven, real-time applications. Telelogic Tau merges the graphical notation of UML (Unified Modeling Language) in the Telelogic Tau UML Suite, with the design and development language of SDL (Specification Description Language) in the Telelogic Tau SDL Suite. This, together with the Telelogic Tau TTCN Suite, provides a complete software development, simulation and testing environment for large-scale communications applications. Telelogic Tau offers advanced project control functions, as well as simulation without the need to write code in the implementation language, interactive generation of sequence diagrams, automatic generation of test cases, and test case simulation and execution. It also includes comprehensive, world-class UML support. By reducing the time spent in each of the analysis and design phases, and especially during the target construction and test phases, the entire software development cycle is reduced. About Telelogic AB Telelogic is the world's leading supplier of visual software development and test tools for real-time communicating systems.
