Telelogic Tau 3.5 - from analysis to design faster than ever MALMÖ, Sweden, May 7, 1999 - Telelogic AB, the leading supplier of integrated development tools for the design and test of communications systems today announced the availability of its newest release of Telelogic Tau 3.5. This version includes the UML to SDL Translator that allows designers to move smoothly from a UML analysis to an SDL design. In addition, the Telelogic Tau 3.5 editors now have a web browser look-and-feel and can generate documentation suitable for browser viewing. The new generation MSC (Message Sequence Charts) Editor offers Collapse and Decompose, two very practical concepts in a structured hierarchical development approach. About Telelogic Tau Telelogic Tau is a market-leading tool suite based on standard languages and methods covering the complete development cycle from analysis to test. It consists of the following three products: @ ORCA, a UML- and MSC-based tool for analysis; @ SDT , an SDL-based software engineering tool for the development of real- time systems; @ ITEX , a TTCN-based tool for standardized testing of communication systems. UML and SDL integration The UML to SDL Translator allows designers to move from a UML analysis to an SDL design by translating all of the UML model information currently supported in Telelogic Tau to the corresponding SDL model. The translator can also simulate a UML model thanks to the precise behavior specification offered by the underlying SDL model. The translator closely follows the principles of the ITU standard Z.109 on UML to SDL mapping that is currently being finalized. Improved Web integration and web browser look-and-feel Telelogic Tau 3.5 now offers the possibility of generating documentation suitable for web browser viewing. Telelogic has selected the new PNG (Portable Network Graphics) format for graphics, a compact and flexible format supported by all new browsers. The Telelogic Tau editors now also include back and forward buttons to move easily between diagrams. Superior hierarchical concepts in the new MSC Editor The new generation MSC Editor offers Collapse and Decompose, two very practical concepts in a structured hierarchical development approach. Designers can use these concepts in a top-down approach by first specifying the top level behavior, and then "open up" the entities where they want to define the internal behavior. The detailed diagram will automatically find all the signals defined at the higher level. In a bottom-up approach, designers "create order out of chaos" by collapsing instances showing details which at first glance would have been difficult to understand. In short, Collapse and Decompose, together with Telelogic Tau's HMSC Editor, allow for more flexible approaches regarding specification, development and testing. Availability Telelogic Tau 3.5 is available now for Microsoft® Windows® NT and UNIX workstations.
