TeleThrive has been named as a finalist in the DC to VC: HIT Startup Showcase competition, which looks for the best ideas in health information technology. The company provides instant medical consultations with doctors over any phone or computer with complete audio and video conferencing.

West Hollywood, CA – September 7, 2011 – TeleThrive has been selected to perform at the second annual DC to VC: HIT Startup Showcase. From a pool of over 100 applicants, venture capital firm Morgenthaler Ventures selected TeleThrive and 10 other promising health IT startups to present their products before industry leaders. This invitation-only event takes place on September 22 at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley campus.

DC to VC is a nationwide competition to find the best startups dedicated to improving care and public health in the US. Morgenthaler Ventures spearheaded the contest, in conjunction with co-organizers Silicon Valley Bank, Practice Fusion, and Health 2.0 and sponsors Microsoft and Gunderson Dettmer. The initial round was open to all US health IT entrepreneurs. Six of the finalists, including TeleThrive, are competing for seed funding; five are seeking Series A funding. All finalists will present before 200 leading venture capitalists, angel investors, and entrepreneurs. In addition to the exposure, each finalist also gets paired with a health IT-savvy mentor to help them prepare for their presentations.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be a part of DC to VC,” says Jordan Michaels, COO, who will lead the company’s demonstration. “It’s an amazing opportunity to engage with the health IT industry. We look forward to meeting other people who believe in the potential of technology to solve pressing issues created by our broken healthcare system.”

TeleThrive plans to demonstrate the next iteration of its telemedicine software at the showcase. At the October 2010 Health 2.0 conference, the company launched its Ringadoc platform, which provides instant consultations with doctors over any telephone. TeleThrive has since developed a related videoconferencing application for mobile devices.

Michaels says the interface of the application will resemble that of Apple’s FaceTime feature. “Now people can interface with doctors via their iPhones and iPads.”

This is the first patient-to-doctor videoconferencing solution that does not require the use of a computer. TeleThrive intends to roll out the mobile application to consumers following DC to VC.
