This summer people in Sweden have sent a record number of MMS messages. During June-August, 6.1 million MMS messages were sent through Telia’s mobile network, an increase of 56 percent, compared with the same period last year. The number of subscribers with camera-equipped mobile phones has doubled during the past year, and in July, approximately two million Telia customers were able to send images from their mobile handsets.

“Interest in the MMS service and mobile Internet surfing is growing steadily in Sweden and people are tending to use their mobile handsets for more than calls – this is becoming an increasingly clear trend. During the summer, camera phones have been the best-selling handsets in our retail stores and we gained approximately one million MMS users during the past year,” says Indra Åsander, head of the consumer market at TeliaSonera Sweden.
