Mobile working methods increase efficiency of Swedish managers When a company uses more mobile working methods, it becomes easier for managers to manage others and perform their own work tasks. These are some of the findings of Telia's "Mobile Manager Survey", which recently polled 1,000 managers in Sweden. Seventy-six percent of the managers polled in the survey said that mobile working methods for employees and supervisors enable higher profitability. Close to 80 percent felt it is stimulating to work in a mobile manner and that mobile working solutions provide good possibilities for establishing better contact with their employees. "The survey shows a clear connection between increased mobility and increased profitability," says Anders Gylder, head of the Large Corporate Customers Segment at TeliaSonera Sweden. "It is also interesting to note how female managers are role models for using mobile technology." The survey indicated that Swedish managers read incoming e-mail quickly: 73 percent read their mail immediately when seated in front of their computers, as each message arrives. Female managers prefer to use e-mail more than male managers. Forty-two percent of the female managers in the survey stated that they use e-mail for providing fast information and making decisions quickly, compared with 26 percent of the male managers polled. Female managers also like to send SMS messages to a greater extent than their male counterparts when they don't have time to talk on the phone, or when they are busy. On the other hand, more than half of the women in the survey (53 percent) felt that employees are not required to answer work-related calls on their mobile phone, or read job-related e-mail, during evenings and weekends, as against 35 percent for male managers.
