Telia and Ericsson to build Sweden’s largest internal enterprise mobile network

In Sweden, Telia and Ericsson have been awarded a contract by OKG AB to build an internal enterprise mobile network covering the entire area where OKG operates three nuclear power stations in Oskarshamn. When the system is completely built out in the summer of 2008, it will be the largest internal enterprise mobile network in Sweden and one of the biggest in the world.

The network will consist of 37 mobile base stations, called micro stations, and 1,600 indoor antennas. The entire 1.6-million-square-metre-large area on the peninsula of Simpevarp will have complete GSM coverage when the network is finished, both outdoors and within all three power plant facilities.

The solution includes fixed telephony in addition to mobile telephony. TeliaSonera will manage and deliver all traffic and be responsible for operating and maintaining the enterprise network. Ericsson is supplying all the hardware.

To guarantee operation, the system has two separate switching platforms of the MX-ONE type from Ericsson – one for normal operation and one as a backup switch. To ensure constant uninterruptible access to the network, the MX-ONE is connected by fibre optic cable and by radio links.
