Telia launches telephony solution of the future for homes

As the first mobile operator in Sweden, TeliaSonera is introducing a brand-new solution for telephony combining the best features of fixed and mobile telephony. With Telia Home Free, the mobile phone is being integrated in residential telephony, making mobile communications easier and cheaper for families in Sweden.
The migration from traditional fixed telephony to mobile and Internet-based services in homes is one of the clearest trends in telecommunications right now.
“We are now integrating the mobile telephone in the digital home by taking the best features from both worlds to also incorporate the personal communications capability of the mobile phone in residential telephony,” says Håkan Dahlström, Head of Mobility Services at TeliaSonera in Sweden. “Telia Home Free has been developed to lead the migration from fixed to mobile and makes mobile communications both easier and cheaper by combining the mobility of the mobile phone with the low calling cost of fixed telephony.”
Border between fixed and mobile is erased – one telephone number wherever you are
In the Telia Home Free service, the telephone functions as an ordinary wired phone in the home and subscribers can keep their current fixed line number. When a person leaves home, an ongoing call is switched automatically to the mobile network. Customers can call at a lower rate at home and also use their phone as an ordinary mobile handset when they leave home. The more household members connected to Telia Home Free (up to five people), the greater the benefits – everyone in the family can answer their home phone number on their mobile, call each other at zero cost and also make simultaneous calls from home.

Calls to all fixed line numbers and Telia mobiles in Sweden cost SEK 0/minute when made from home. Calls to all Telia mobiles in Sweden, including the household’s IP mobiles, cost SEK 0/minute with the Telia Mobile to Friends subscription. Calls answered on the fixed line number, outside the home, cost SEK 0/minute.
